The Different Slingshot Shooting Styles
OOAK Forge makes slingshots with three different shooting styles/types of frames. Through the Frame (TTF), Over the Top (OTT), and Pickle Fork Shooter (PFS).
A TTF style slingshot is what most people envision when they think of a slingshot. Crotch in a tree, that classic Wrist Rocket, most likely the slingshot you had as a child, if your parents were cool enough to let you have one. When shooting this style the projectile is traveling between the forks of the slingshot. This is arguably the easiest style to learn to shoot.
An OTT style slingshot is what most competitive slingshot shooters use. Yes you most definitely should go search competitive slingshot shooting right now, to say it’s entertaining is an understatement. The projectile will be slung up and over the top of the frame in this shooting style. OTT shooting requires its own set of particular tweaks to how you hold the pouch, and how you shoot to really be successful. But once you have a grasp on OTT it can be darn easy to be deadly accurate. Refer to our post “How to Shoot an OTT Slingshot” for more info.
A Pickle Fork Shooter (PFS) is a smaller slingshot with no forks to speak of. It also requires a specific shooting style to work. This type of slingshot is not usually one you would want to begin your adventure into slingshots with, as the smaller frame and no forks make it rather easy to hit your hand if not shot correctly. The only slingshot we sell that is technically a PFS is our Horny Monster Slingshot. Please check out our post, “How to Shoot a Horny Monster Slingshot” for more info.
